How To Be A Successful Nursing Student

Make time for social and work life

Making time for work and friends will also teach time management and will kind of test my ability to say "no" when needed.

I know nursing school will be filled with a lot of study and clinical times but having time for work and friends is important for mental health.

Mental health help is very important as well. Reaching out when need be is crucial.

There are many resources at hand for me. I don't want to feel like I am on my own if I have questions.

Know my learning style

Will help when it comes to the classroom as well. Some teachers are more vocal, some are more interactive, etc. Reaching out to teachers and letting them know how you learn, will also help them teach.

Knowing my learning style will help me reach my goals when it comes to homework and study time.

Be organized

Organizing a schedule at the beginning of the semester will allow me to set my planner up with important dates such as exams, due dates, and even life events.

Creating a organized work space will help with stress.

Organizing my planner each week will allow me to make time for every event I have.

Sleep

Sleep is used as a memorization and learning strengthening mechanism. This is especially important when it comes to nursing.

Sleeping helps you learn information better and will help me focus better in class.

Sleep is crucial when it comes to school.

Support from family & friends

Talk about stress with family and friends and allow them to give me insight on how to get past it.

Allow my family and friends help me study for exams.

Let my family and friends know when I have assignments and exams.

Instructors

Meet during office hours to discuss test taking skills and to go over course schedules.

Instructors know the content of the course very well and want to help you understand it.

Ask for help

Advisors

My advisors can guide me in the right direction of help and tutors if need be.

Creating time to visit with nursing and academic advisors will allow me to get a set schedule of future classes.

Homework

Make sure I understand the purpose of the assignment and how it relates to the content of the course.

Complete homework in a timely manner so I am not rushing at the last minute.

Study Time

spend time studying for exams days in advance

properly study after each lecture for better retainment of content

allow time to study for at least 45 minutes per class a day
