Why Are They At Risk? How Are People Helping?

The government is helping by protecting the wetlands.

They are at risk because of the destruction of wetlands.

King rails are also hunted by cats and are hit by cars often.

Wetlands are affected by drainges, pollution, and shoreline development.

Life Span

King rail can live up to 5-9 years

What Ecosystems Do They Live In.

They live in large wetlands that border Lake St. Clair. Some king rails live along marshes around Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Nests

Males usually select where the nest will be build most of it. The nests are built in marsh vegetations with shallow water.

What do king rail eat.

King rail eat mostly crayfish and fiddler crabs. They also eat rice, frogs, mice, bugs, and other things.

They eat plants and animals.

Population

There are around 60-100 mature king rails in Canada.
