Green Industries This course introduces students to the various sectors of the green industries – agriculture, forestry, horticulture, floristry, and landscaping. Using materials, processes, and techniques commonly employed in these industries, students will participate in a number of hands on projects that may include plant or animal propagation; production, maintenance, and harvesting activities; the development of floral or landscaping designs; and/or related construction activities. Students will also develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to green industry activities, learn about safe and healthy working practices, and explore secondary and post-secondary education and training pathways and career opportunities in the various industry sectors.

Horiculture

Main topic

Horticulture is practiced in many gardens, "plant growth centre's" and nurseries.

They can be cropping systems, engineers, wholesale or retail business managers, propagators, and tissue culture specialists.

Horticulturist can work in industries, government, educational institutions, and private collections.

Post harvest physiology involves maintaining the quality of and preventing the Spoilage of plants and animals.

Oenology includes all aspects of wine and winemaking.

Pomology includes the production and marketing of pome fruits.

olericulture includes the production and marketing of vegetables

Landscape horticulture includes the production, marketing and maintenance of landscape plants.

Floriculture includes the production and marketing of floral crops.

Turf management includes all aspects of the production and maintenance of turf grass for sports, leisure use or amenity use

Arboriculture is the study of, and the selection, planting, care, and removal of, individual trees, shrubs, vines, and other perennial woody plants.

Horticulture is very diverse(unique) in its activities like incorporating plants for food and non food crops.

It is practiced from the level of a garden up to the activities of a multinational corporation.

Horticulture is the Science, Technology, and business involved in intensive plant cultivation for human use.
