What were John Brown's intentions when he led a raid at Harper's Ferry, Virgina?

Created constitution to lead raid

Did not allow men to shoot if there were innocent people around

Only killed in self defense

Assured prisoners no harm and they would be set free

Considered it to be a religious movement

The oppressed are equal to the rich

Reward was the satisfaction of delivering those in great distress

Was a staunch abolitionist

Believed that Southerners were guily of wrong against God and humanity

Would be right for anyone to interfere with slavery

To save the country, cut off Virgina cancer

lesser of two evils

Only came with 18 men

no wages

Did not expect slaves to uprise

Expected them to gather from in time and set them freee

Purpose was to free the slaves
