Minority Language Rights
You have a right to demand education
in either French or English in certain situations.
Legal Rights
Police cannot detain you illegally or
without reason
Right to a lawyer
If you are arrested, you have to be told why
you are being arrested
You are innocent until proven guilty
Official Languages of Canada
You have the right to talk/write to
the government in either French or English
and recieve a response in that language.
Equality Rights
You cannot be treated unfairly based
on your age, gender, sexuality, race or
mental and physical health.
Mobility Rights
You can leave and return to Canada whenever
you want, but you need to have a Passport or
if you are crossing into the US, just a driving license.
You can live and work wherever you want
Freedom to move around the country
Democratic Rights
Elections must be held every 4 years minimum
Compete for the job of a politician
Right to vote (after you're 18 and a citizen)
Responsibilites in a Democracy
Be an active participant in the community
Respect all Canadians
Appear on trial and tell the truth
Serve on a jury if you are a citizen
Pay taxes
Engage in the system by voting
Respecting the law
Fundamental Freedoms
Freedom of association: freedom to join any
group of people you want.
You can have rallies to express your
dissatisfaction
Freedom to express your opinion
(within limits)
Freedom to pray and worship
anyway you want
