After Approval from Judiciary Committee

There is a Full vote on the House Floor

With a simple majority vote, the President is "Impeached"

Steps to Initiate

A resolution is introduced by a member of the House of Representatives

The Speaker of the House must send to the Judiciary Committee for approval

Reasons For Impeachment

High Crimes and Misdemeanors

Bribery

Treason

After House Approval of Impeachment

The Senate holds a trial to determine if a crime was committed

Members of the House serve as "managers" to present evidence to the Senate

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Presides over the Trial

Final Vote

Senate reconvenes and votes either guilty or not guilty

A Two-Thirds Vote of the Senate is required to convict

Penalty for Impeachment

Removal from Office

No other penalty can be brought against a President at the hearing.
