Oedipus the King/ The Odyssey

Oedipus

Oedipus is a tragic hero and a star character in the story "Oedipus the King".

Oedipus is a dynamic character because he rushes throughout the story to try and find a way to overcome his fate of killing his father and marrying his mother but isn't able to. He has learned to be humbled with himself but makes it where he can't see so that he doesn't have to look at what he has done in his life that he was running from. He continuously punishes himself.

Oedipus is definitely conflicted with internal struggles that he can't stop from happening.

The conflict in this story is the tragedy that Oedipus feels with learning what his fate it. Hisreal father wants to have him killed but instead he is given to another kingand queen that can’t have children. They raise him as their own and he learnsof his adoption and asks his mother which she denies. So he seeks the find thetruth. He is trying to beat his fate which says that he will kill his father and marry his mother. 

Fearless

"No. It's your death I want." 732

Great Ruler

"I did not think it fit that I should hear of this from messengers but came myself,--I Oedipus whom all men call the Great.[He returns to the PRIEST.]You’re old and they are young; come, speak for them.What do you fear or want, that you sit here suppliant? Indeed I’m willing to give all that you may need; I would be very hard should I not pity suppliants like these."

Troubled

"I wouldn't have come home to kill my father,
no one could call me lover
of her from whose body I came.
I have no god now.
I'm a son to a fouled mother,
I fathered children in the bed
where my father once gave me
deadly life. If ever an evil
rules all other evils
it is my evil, the life
god gave to Oedipus."

Odysseus

Odysseus was a strong, brave man that is very handsome! He is loyal and pious. He most likely had blonde hair and was tan, looked like you could peel him off of a magazine.

Protagonist

Odysseus is the protagonist because he is the leading character in the story. The hero!

Dynamic Character

Throughout the story Odysseus shows great arrogance but by the end of the story he starts to show patience and is more wise.

Conflict

The conflict here I do believe is driven by external forces. The major conflict is Odysseus has to return home so that he can defeat the suitors who are trying to threaten his estate. Another conflict is Telemachus needs to mature so that he can secure his reputation in the Greek society. The resolution of the conflict is when Odysseus and Telemachus kill the suitors which was a plan for when he returned home to his estate. 

Traits

Strong

"Then Odysseus
Tied his rags around his waist, revealing
His sculpted thighs, his broad shoulders,
His muscular chest and arms. Athena
Stood near the hero, magnifying his build.
The suitors' jaws dropped open."

Courageous

"Scarring his own body with mortifying strokes,throwing filthy rags on his back like any slave,he slipped into the enemy’s city, roamed its streets—all disguised, a totally different man, a beggar,hardly the figure he cut among Achaea’s ships.That’s how Odysseus infiltrated Troy,and no one knew him at all …"

Confident

"No,it was always oar swept ships that thrilled my heart,and wars, and the long polished spears and arrows,dreadful gear that makes the next man cringe.I loved them all—god planted that love inside me.Each man delights in the work that suits him best."
