How to create mind maps

Thanks to the user-friendly interface of Mindomo, it is easy and intuitive to learn how to make a mind map. You can use one of the templates or create one from scratch. Here are the simple steps:

Step 1: After you log in you have the dashboard opened and click on “Create”. On the left side of your screen, you have multiple use cases categories. Select one of them and browse throughout the templates. You can also use the search bar from the top of your screen to search for a specific template. You can use keywords, specific words and suggestions will show.

However, if you want to start a map from scratch, select a Blank diagram. You can create a blank mind map, concept map, organigram, tree organigram, timeline, outline, or a Gantt chart.

To select a different theme than the one from the preview, click on the top-right corner of the diagram, and you’ll see a library full of themes.

Step 2: On the screen, you have the new map. Start adding topics and subtopics. Move topics by dragging and dropping them on the canvas. Use the following buttons for shortcuts:

ENTER – to insert a topic
TAB – insert subtopic
DEL – remove a topic
F2 – rename a topic
CTRL+Z – undo
CTRL+Y – redo

Step 3: Customize the map as you prefer.

On the top right corner of the selected topic, you have a white triangle (context menu).

There you can edit the topic, connections, font, color, size, style, layout, shape, etc.

You can import images, video files or audio files from your computer, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.
