Two ways to organise the past

History maps split along a useful line, and picking the wrong one makes a topic harder than it is. Some subjects are chronological, where sequence and cause carry the meaning. Others are thematic, where a civilisation or a life is best held as a set of parallel aspects.

Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece are thematic: religion, government, daily life and writing sit as siblings, because studying them in sequence would imply a progression that was not there. Facts about Martin Luther King Jr. is a single life, where chronology and theme both have a claim and the map lets you keep both. Historical figures that changed the world is the widest, built to be extended as a course moves through periods.

All of these open as ordinary editable maps, which is the point for classroom use — the version a student builds and argues with is worth more than the version they were given. For the geography that shaped these events, see the geography templates; for why building beats reading, how to learn with mind maps.
